Need tips for giving good oral (women only please)?

A woman I was recently dating harshly criticized me on my technique of giving oral. She said I should be applying some suction, whereas what I was doing was purely tongue action. I've never heard of such a thing. Is suction something that other women would want, or am I correct in assuming most women want mostly tongue action down there?
