Does a relationship define you?

This is an interesting debate I have had with people but does being in a relationship define you as a person? I say yes because especially as a woman, people are always criticizing you for not finding a man and having a family. Society makes single people feel socially handicapped because they don't have a partner on their hip. What do you think??
